Course Curriculum

Fundamentals of hydrology, river terminology, and water reading
Technical skills required to maneuver rafts on a whitewater river
River safety and communication
River etiquette
Basic rescue training including rapid swimming, raft flipping, and throw ropes
Guest service, logistics, and dynamics of a commercial (or private) river trip
Equipment & gear care and maintenance
Risk Management
First aid/CPR training (including how to respond on river to any level incident – from minor cuts and hypothermia to situations where 911 should be called)

At Exoticandes, we place an emphasis on organized river travel and our guides and instructors are trained in river etiquette in order to ensure that our trips run smoothly. The most notable result is that our trips are, in river terms, tight. This means that all of the rafts in a trip stay together, in sight and within communicating distance of each other. For our guests, this means that you are close to your friends in other rafts and the trips run smoothly.
